Bokis diary Eurobasket 2009 #6

Hello!

This time Im writing from our last stop - Warsaw. We have an interesting week behind us. Last weekend we had a tournament in Maribor, Slovenia. In the first game we beat Bulgaria. Many people thought we didnt play well, but I can assure you that Bulgaria is a tough team and many opponents will have to work hard to beat them. Second game against Greece was a true spectacle. Tabor arena was packed. It felt great to play there and we hope well play games in similar arenas around Slovenia in the future. The game was played at very high level. It was intense all the way to the end, when we were able to secure the win. A lot of stuff was also going on the floor, with a couple players being ejected. One of them was me. First time in my career. Interesting, that it happened in Maribor, where I played most of my career as a young player.

After a day off we took a plane to Germany. We played against Germany twice and won both times. Unfortunately, in the first game Beno Udrih got hurt. He injured his knee. It was a huge blow for our team. Beno was one of our main players. Too bad. It was tough for us and for him when we heard the news that he wont be traveling with us to Eurobasket. Beno, get well soon !!!

After our second game in Karlsruhe we traveled to Poland. Its pretty cold here - no sign of summer ever being here. The hotel that we stay at is not bad. Its in the center of Warsaw. There is a big music festival going on here and if we open our windows we have free concert music until 2am! The beds are soft, so some of us decided to put mattresses on the floor. Rooms are small. Me and my roommate Jaka Lakovic are feeling a little squeezed in, but its ok. Slovenian basketball federation is working hard to make us feel comfortable. Id like to thank them for all their efforts this summer. They did a great job. However, when the Spanish team arrived at our hotel, they quickly packed up and left. They found a better hotel down the street, with more hotel stars and probably bigger rooms. Whatever works for them...

The arena that we will play in is old and small. But I like that. Knowing that there will be almost 3000 of our loud fans here, that should work in our advantage.

Sunday we have our last practice and Monday it starts for real! At 6.15pm we have our first game - against Great Britain. Tuesday we play Serbia and Wednesday against Spain. We can promise you that well do our best. Our fans should do the same!!! If you dont have the ticket yet - buy it ! Get in the car, train or plane and come here! Or make sure you sit in front of TV and cheer so loud that we can here you all the way over here! Its go time !!!

I would like to thank all the people who always have and always will believe in us. Slovenia is not big, but we can be the best. It wont be easy, but we can do it!

This was my last Eurobasket 2009 diary. Its time to play basketball...

Take care,

Boki
